Life is still pretty busy, though certainly winding down. I am almost completely moved into my new apartment (only the wall decorating left to be done--which is actually a lot of work when you have as much crap on your walls as I usually do, but I'm trying not to think about it), and I'm loving living here. This winter is very much the worst winter I have ever experienced (in recallable memory, maybe we had a worse one when I was a baby before we moved to Miami), which I'm sure I don't have to tell you guys, but I am a big whiny Miami baby and I just am so fucking excited this unending January is over because today was 48 degrees out, which is usually horrible but DOWNRIGHT BALMY THIS YEAR, and I can only assume it will now be warm forever and ever amen (shhhh, I don't WANT facts).
One of my jobs is really really fucking crazy for the 5 weeks around the beginning of the semester, so I'm only now coming off that and getting some down time again. It feels really damn good. I've also had it pretty tight financially, between the university taking tuition tax and moving/buying furniture, and the end of that is finally on the horizon once I get my tax return, so a lot of big things off my back. PLUS, now that it is February, I get to be really super excited I will be hosting three of my favorite humans, ordinaryink, oddishly, & glovered over Valentine's Day weekend. They are going to be my first guests in my new home! :D We are going to have fun and do THINGS, though honestly I have no idea what those things will be except there will be drinking. IT'S GONNA BE A GOOD TIME. Unless Helen spikes my chocolate vodka + Coke with tequila again. Because then I will have to go to prison for murder (hint: this is your only warning). My classes are pretty chill. One of them is on Ralph Ellison and it's with one of my favorite professors, who taught the first grad class I ever took on James Baldwin (this being my last semester, it's pretty poetic). My other "class" is an independent study with my thesis adviser, who is also a favorite. I'm doing some creative personal essays inspired by the magazine my dad used to be an editor for, Mariel, which was kind of a big footnote in 20th century Cuban-American literature (lol, which is a very niche market, I know), so that's been kind of daunting to plan for, but hopefully it'll help me work on my Spanish...seeing as how I need to be able to read the stuff I am writing about. XD
Fandom things are pretty hectic, too, but I can see the end in sight!! I posted my first spn_reversebang yesterday with sillie82. Here's the info if you're interested *cough* READ IT *cough*:
Title: Between Scylla and Charybdis
Rating: NC-17 for explicit sexual content (tentacle porn)
Word Count: 12,413
Summary: To save a young girl, Dean insists on rushing into a job before they really know what they're hunting. They just barely make it out intact: one small injury, a bite to Dean's neck, and as far as Sam's concerned they got lucky. At least until they find out the bite they'd thought was no big deal is slowly changing Dean into a lake monster. Now Sam has to decide between killing his brother and risking that Dean will turn him next.
I'm pretty happy with it, but even more happy with the amazing art I got to write for. No, seriously, guys. I get that tentacles are not everyone's kink, so I get it if you skip the fic, but LOOK AT THIS ART. sillie82, as we all know, is a super talented artist, but what I did not know is that she is also hella awesome at crochet and she MADE LITTLE CROCHETCHESTERS AND THEN SHE MADE LITTLE TENTACLES TO ATTACH TO DEAN AND THERE IS CROCHET TENTACLE PORN NO NO I AM NOT LYING IT IS THE MOST PERFECT THING GO LOOK.
*cough* I'm calm. I'm perfectly calm. So! I got that off my plate, but I have another spn_reversebang scheduled to post in 5 (!!!) days with petite_madame. Of course, because I am *awesome*, that one is still not finished yet. *weeps* It's really super involved and will not end, and god knows how I am going to convince someone to beta it, it will probably need to involve prostitution. BUT! I have some stuff that had made me feel very emotional, so hopefully that will translate to readers once I get my shit together and F I N I S H it. Once that's done, I will need to wrap up my kidficstory and send it to poor cassiopeia7 who has been waiting approx. 85 years for a draft...and I swear I was going to wrap up that scene and send it to you before I realized just how quickly my reversebangs were coming up on me. /o\ After that I might have some relative quiet for a few weeks? Only, lol, probably not, because when is my writing schedule ever quiet???
Some of you may know how unhealthily attached I was to j2_everafter, so this year I wrote a couple of timestamps on the day drafts would usually be due as a sort of in memorium. If you read my j2_everafter fic from last year In the Small of My Heart and would like to see more in that verse, you should check these out. They're not long but they ARE angsty. >:D

Other recent fandom things include:
This incest pairings rec list I posted at the beginning of the month for insmallpackages, in case you missed it. Not to toot my own horn, but it's drowning in incest kink and is therefore pretty great.
Two really great rec communities are currently looking for people to help out! One of them is spn_themes, where I have been a member of the team for about a year and a half now. I love it so so much, guys. It helps keep me reading recent stuff in fandom and is a lot of fun. If you have any questions about it, you can ask me or talk to wendy here. The other is crack_impala, which I'm not formally involved with, nor do I think I can commit to until I graduate (though I AM quite tempted, because it seems so doable?), but it only asks for one rec/week, and I really really miss having those recs posted regularly because I love the structure of the comm. Really hoping to see it revived, so check out this post if you think it might be a thing you could be interested in!
ANOTHER REALLY EXCITING THING THAT HAPPENED. During the most recent fandomaid auction, I went a little bit batshit bidding on artists because it was the first time one of these things happened while I actually had real jobs and therefore money that could help (okay, so I broke my bank account, but shut up). The first of the art pieces for that was completed recently and it is SO SO PRECIOUS, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. I'm not sure how many Pacific Rim fans I have on here, but aredblush did this too sweet Mako/Raleigh + ghost!Yancy domestic art all for meee! I even got the hard copy in the mail, so I can put it up in my fanart museum (er, once I get off my lazy ass and *hang* my damn fanart museum). It makes me actually "awwww" out loud every time I look at it.
What else? I guess the only other fannish thing in my life right now is that all the excitement re: that big football game coming up has inspired me to do a relisten of chemm80's podfic of the QB Verse while I do my at-home work, so now I spend all my time sitting at my desk wallowing over Jensen and ugly-ducking!Jared (though I juust finished Next Man Up today, so HE IS ABOUT TO BECOME A SWAN I AM NOT READY). It's embarrassing how many times I have read/listened to that gargantuan verse and how fucked up I still manage to get on it. Srsly, rhythmsextion is a genius and also owes me therapy for life. I cannot even imagine how much work went into podficcing the whole thing, but, JFC, chemm80 is my savior.
Aaaaaand that is my life in a nutshell. <3 you guys! I want to do the one-post-a-day-for-month-and-people-tell-m
