EPIC REC POST #3 - PUPPY LOVE (Remus/Sirius)

I am deeply sorry for how late these are, but some of you guys who had asked said you were still interested, and so I present you with my Remus/Sirius recs post!

PUPPY LOVE RECS:

These are in Alphabetical Order. Top Recs are **BOLDED**.

FANFICTION:

**A Beginner’s Guide to Being Dead by brighty18**
Word Count: ~38,000
Light or Heavy: Light (mostly)
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: Hard R. Background James/Lily. Mild drug use (weed), ghost sex, I suppose you could also say character death, though, truthfully, most characters are already dead.
Summary: Sirius falls through the Veil and dies, meeting his friends and uncles in the Afterlife. As he comes to terms with being dead, he learns that his brother is missing and sets out to find him. This is the story of Sirius' journeys and discoveries in the afterlife.
Why You Should Read It: GUYS. If you take none of these recs seriously, just read this one. I don’t usually like beyond the veil stories, so when the bigbangblackout happened, I only read this one because I was familiar with the author’s writing and a fan. But this was so much better than I could have hoped—it’s my favorite R/S story ever, aside from Shoebox Project, which doesn’t count because, duh. It’s HILARIOUS and SMART and focuses on characters that usually don’t get much attention (OMFG, THE JAMES AND LILY IN THIS STORY ♥_♥). Her look at the after world is really interesting and even though most of it is hilarious, the serious bits are really, really heart breaking. There isn’t a huge amount of R/S interaction for obvious reasons, but their love is really palpable through the glimpses we get of Remus. Just read it, bitches. It also has a really nice piece of bonus art stuck in there ^_^.

Book Morality by linckia_blue
Word Count: ~1,000
Light or Heavy: I’ll call it light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13.
Summary: What had slipped in, along with arrogance, dagger intelligence, a small part of insanity, and beauty to Sirius Black, that made him a steadfast man after his own and other’s hearts? What gave Remus Lupin his grace, when all he had to his name was a childhood full of sharp teeth, sharp voices, and sharp fists?
Why You Should Read It: linckia_blue is a really, really talented writer, for starters. This story is gorgeous—it looks at both of the boys in depth and really highlights why these characters who are so different are so perfect together.

The Book of Shadows by redsnake05
Word Count: ~1,900
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: R. Alien influence, gratuitous SGA references (I didn’t get them and I still enjoyed the story).
Summary: A late night visit to the Restricted Section turns up a strange book. Remus and Sirius find their slow tug of attraction turning into a dizzying collision course.
Why You Should Read It: This story…I don’t even know how to describe it to you except to tell you to read it for yourself. It is WEIRD. But it is original and kind of mind-bogglingly awesome. Plus, library sex. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

The Drought Story by librae
Word Count: 3,182
Light or Heavy: Light
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Summary: Remus's owl died at the end of June, inaugurating what Sirius dubbed the Summer of Heatstroke.
Why You Should Read It: This is one of those fandom classics that everyone has to read—and with good reason. The atmosphere of the drought is my favorite part, you can feel it oppressing you as well as the boys as you read. The relationship between them is so understated and passionate, it’s a great, short read.

The Frame of Fables by rhye
Word Count: 933
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Summary: Sirius can't tell his fables from his past. OotP-era.
Why You Should Read It: This is so sad, but it was one of the first things I read in fandom (I don’t even remember how I stumbled onto it), and the sting still hurts. Sirius is so broken and I can’t say too much because there’s a twist in the end, but just trust me—the love is epic.

His Smile by kaalee
Word Count: 680
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Summary: It's not that Remus doesn't smile. Not exactly. It's more that his smile actually means something.
Why You Should Read It: First of all: this comes with some swell art, and I am quite the little fanart addict. Second, it’s just a really sweet look at Remus through Sirius’s eyes, I’d even call it reverential. I think fandom has a tendency towards Remus POV, so a cute little piece like this that is really just Remus through an adoring Sirius is a gem.

Jeux Sans Frontières by duck_or_rabbit
Word Count: 170
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13.
Summary: Nearly there, just a few steps away from finishing, but Remus could barely see through his muddled opinions to continue writing clearly.
Why You Should Read It: duck_or_rabbit rocks the art of drabble writing. This one is so sad, it’s like a paper cut—sharp and painful despite how tiny it is. The last line is like a smack in the face. *thumbs up*

The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret by woldy
Word Count: ~6,000
Light or Heavy: Heavy
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NC-17. James/Remus/Sirius (Remus/Sirius, James/Lily, James/Sirius). Infidelity.
Summary: Love is about vulnerability, isn't it? And if the trust is broken – well, that's the risk everyone takes.
Why You Should Read It: This is not a happy, pretty story like most of the things on this list. The characters are not as likable as I prefer them to be. But it’s gritty and it’s interesting, it looks into relationships you don’t really want to look at and it makes you exactly as uncomfortable as it should. It’s brilliant with emotions and, above all, it is so obscenely hot—dear lord. You know how I kind of have a thing for threesomes? This is almost entirely responsible.

Mystery of the Missing Muggle Studies Section by mindabbles
Word Count: ~8,000
Light or Heavy: Light
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: R.
Summary: When current events in the larger world move close to home, Sirius, along with Remus, James, Lily, and Peter must get to the bottom of it. Sirius' sleuthing is interrupted occasionally in order to have sex with Remus.
Why You Should Read It: It’s a R/S mystery! Such cute fun, detective!Sirius made my heart all kinds of tickly. And it’s well done, too, or at least I think so because I didn’t guess it.

On the Outside Looking In by Midnitemarauder
Word Count: 8,887
Light or Heavy: Heavy
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NC-17.
Summary: Amidst secrets and deceptions, James discovers he has a few 'furry little problems' of his own.
Why You Should Read It: I have such a hard on for OPOV. This story actually really frustrated the crap out of me—I’m a little overprotective of James, and he’s a bit of a shit in this story. But the sex scene through his eyes? It is so beautiful, their love actually physically hurts me it’s so strong, even from someone not directly experiencing it (which is really the test of great OPOV, if you ask me). I think there’s one image in this story that has stuck with me more than anything else in any porn, almost in any fic ever.

Passing Days by captainpookey
Word Count: ~1,900
Light or Heavy: Heavy
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13.
Summary: With war and suspicion pulling them apart, Remus clings to the hopeless remains of a relationship with a man whom he never sees.
Why You Should Read It: I’m really sorry, guys. You know what an angst whore I am and the distrust during the First War is so heartbreaking to me and therefore beautiful. This fic explores that from Remus’s POV and it’s so so hurty, but really nicely done.

Rose Castle by lonestarfruit
Word Count: 10,143
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Summary: Have you heard of the princess in the tower, whom time has left untouched for centuries? Her skin is like cream under the full moon’s light, and thousands of roses watch over her while she dreams.
Why You Should Read It: This is such a lovely, imaginative story. It’s a R/S fairy tale and it’s genuinely told like a fairy tale, just as enchanting and yet there are some moments where the author purposely plays with the genre and it works out hilariously. You’ll know what I’m referring to when you get there.

**Scentillation (Revisited): Hymn to Proserpine (#1) by pre_raphaelite1**
Word Count: 708
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NC-17.
Summary: He trails Remus like a shadow, dark and silent.
Why You Should Read It: I can’t really say anything about this without spoiling it, but read it, really. It’s short and it hurts.

**The Shoebox Project by ladyjaida & dorkorific**
Word Count: Long as all hell.
Light or Heavy: Light
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: Incomplete (though, for what it’s worth, I thought it was a perfectly logical place to stop and had no clue it was incomplete until someone whined to me about it).
Summary: The Marauders: The Hogwarts Years
Why You Should Read It: Yeah, I know, pretty much anyone in the Harry Potter fandom has read this, let alone Remus/Sirius shippers. But it had to be on the list anyway, because it’s perfect. I mean, not literally, the characters can be stereotypes. But whatever, this story was the first piece of fic I read after two years out of fandom and if it hadn’t been so wonderful and life-consuming, I may not be in fandom today, and I might have murdered my roommate at the time. PLUS, THE ART, OMG, THE ART. No Sirius will ever look more like Sirius to me than this one does. It’s just so fucking happy making, funny, it’s that comfort food you always come back to. AND THEIR LOVE. *_*

Synergy by remuslives23
Word Count: 13,540
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NC-17.
Summary: Non-magic AU in which Teddy and Harry are the same age. Sirius is a kindergarten teacher, Remus is a children’s book illustrator.
Why You Should Read It: This is just a really, really adorable story. Harry and Teddy are so precious even I want to adopt them. In fact, despite my usual hatred for children/kidfic, they’re probably my favorite part of the story. It’s just a great story to read when you need a smile.

**These Young Lions by linckia_blue**
Word Count: ~26,000
Light or Heavy: Light, with a good mix of some serious stuff, too.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13. Changing POVs, including one OC (he’s awesome, though).
Summary: On Halloween night, 1981, Sirius runs for his freedom and ends up as a dog on the doorstep of No. 11 Privet Drive. But that’s only the beginning. What comes next is a desperate hunt for the evidence to give Sirius his life back, and give Harry a home.
Why You Should Read It: I don’t usually go for AUs in which Sirius doesn’t end up in Azkaban, but this one is really perfect. This is exactly what would have happened in a better world—it’s realistic and, although the sadness of what happened to Lily and James doesn’t ever quite go away, it has a lot of hope. This is a smart and enjoyable read, it would leave you too sad, but it’s not fluff, either, and I really, really recommend it.

This is What Grace Looks Like by magnetic_pole
Word Count: 800
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG. Second person POV.
Summary: An unexpected visitor changes everything.
Why You Should Read It: People tend to get so caught up with how soon Remus lost Sirius after getting him back that we forget to celebrate that he got him back at all. This story has so much happiness and hope in it, even in the subdued way that it has to be at this stage in their lives. It also uses second person really effectively, which is something I’m a pretty big fan of.

**22 Magnolia Mansions by minnow_53**
Word Count: ~6,000
Light or Heavy: Light
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13.
Summary: Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned; especially when that woman is an exclusive flat invaded by two uncouth schoolboys.
Why You Should Read It: It is told from the POV of their apartment, and she is a feminist. ‘Nuff said? This is such an original, hilarious story. I was basically kicking in glee all through reading it.

FANART:

**All art is drawn, there are no manips.**

After the Full Moon by linnpuzzle
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: G. Not expressly R/S.
Why You Should Look At It: Marauders being good friend and taking care of BB!Remus! I love James keeping look out, how Sirius seems to want Remus to put all of his weight on him (oh hai, accidental Rob Thomas quoting), and they just all look so concerned.

All Possible Worlds by fera_festiva
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: I am weary of the fated-love-being-reborn trope, but this uses it perfectly. It shows five different ways Remus and Sirius could have met, some are magical and some are not, some are historical—they’re all very creative and well put together. I’m also a fan of the subtle use of color as a kind of guiding thread through the piece.

Blowjob by ericahpfa
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NOT WORK SAFE. NC-17. The title is not a metaphor, people.
Why You Should Look At It: Well, I really love this artist’s work, and she mostly does porn, so. It’s hot as fucking hell, guys.

**don’t leave me here, close at the end of my edge by spacefragments**
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13. You will saaaad.
Why You Should Look At It: I might be maybe a little bit in love with all of spacefragments’s Remus/Sirius art, so I really suggest you guys check it all out, not just the 800 pieces I rec, but this one is my absolute favorite. It’s so emotional, the coloring is really perfect, and the body language/facial expressions on all three of them are so perfect. It’s such an authentic moment and such an emotional one.

**echoing around me by calembours**
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: This is really interesting because it doesn’t look as sad as it is—I think that dissonance between the colors and the story is really well done.

Homecoming by kasche
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: Aside from the fact that LadyBelial’s art is always wonderfully drawn, this is just really sweet and funny. I love the boys bantering at each other and I have a weakness for seeing Padfoot—this is one of the best renderings of him I can think of. Plus, Remus is so adorably smitten, you can see it in that giant smile when Padfoot licks him. And when Padfoot’s giving him the stink-eye right before he turns back into Sirius—priceless.

Jitters by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NOT WORKSAFE. There is a little cock (\o/).
Why You Should Look At It: I really, really love the moment where the legs hit the back of the bed and they fall. She does a really great job showing movement in her art and using their facial expressions to tell a story, as well. The last panel is especially adorable—I can’t get enough of the expression on Sirius’s face.

The Last Ones to Leave by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13, implied canon character death.
Why You Should Look At It: D: JAMES AND LILY. But this is another really beautiful, real moment in watercolor by spacefragments. It’s so solemn, but I love how you can feel the support the boys have for each other in it.

Leash Not Neccessary by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13, naked chest.
Why You Should Look At It: I feel like Sirius is going to freeze to death, or Remus is going to melt, but I don’t care. Look at how fucking cute and happy they are. Their facial expressionssss. *_*

**Letter to a Dead Man by nassima**
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: One version is NC-17, there is an alternate which is G. Both are worth looking at, IMO.
Why You Should Look At It: This comic is so beautiful and heartbreaking that it’s not fair. It really shows Remus’s grief and expresses perfectly what about Sirius’s character made him so compelling. The love and just…tears, guys. Tears everywhere.

**Life in My Hands by spacefragments**
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: Canon character death. PG-13.
Why You Should Look At It: This is such a beautiful but tragic piece. Their expressions, the body language, the clinging and absolute terror! It’s so emotional and the use of lighting in this is stellar.

**Love in Grimmauld Place by nassima**
Light or Heavy: Heavy
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NOT WORK SAFE.
Why You Should Look At It: I love this artist’s style and this is such a sexy piece—I am frankly a little surprised by the lack of stair sex art in the world. And I think it’s such a lovely, liberating moment, which you rarely get to see in post-Azkaban art and fic.

Lunchtime Amusements by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: FOOTSIE! ‘Nuff said.

Moony + Padfoot by linnpuzzle
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: G.
Why You Should Look At It: I love the hands in this piece. Casual intimacy wins every time.

The Morning After by lolasangel
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13, naked torsos, probably not worksafe.
Why You Should Look At It: I adore the thick lines and bold colors this author uses. This is a really great moment, I can see a million mornings like this happening, and it’s so soft and easy between them despite what happened the night before, you really get a sense of how good they are for each other.

Nos Contra Mundum by beeinmybonnet
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13, partially naked chests.
Why You Should Look At It: I really adore the style in this piece—it’s just so cute! It tells a story through a lot of small, intimate moments, and it’s just very sweet.

Not the Coffee by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NOT WORKSAFE. I’d call it a hard PG-13. There’s table sex.
Why You Should Look At It: I love love love the use of color in this piece. Their expressions are so hilarious and in character, and the artist illustrates movement really perfectly.

One Sanctuary by chibitoaster
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: Beautifully bold, contrasting colors, amazing use of lighting to create atmosphere, and tender boys. What more can you ask for?

Parts of a Whole by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NOT WORK SAFE. Tie bondage and sex. NC-17.
Why You Should Look At It: Ohhh, so that’s why they make you wear ties at Hogwarts. *drool*

Peach and Crème Fraiche Tart by cathybites
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: R.
Why You Should Look At It: Drawn in a beautiful style, great facial expressions, and really sexy. Plus, I pretend it’s come and it makes it even hotter :D

Puppy Love by littleblackbow
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: NC-17. NOT WORKSAFE.
Why You Should Look At It: This is yet another mega-talented R/S artist. I really adore bottoming from the top, the boys are obviously having so much fun here, and there’s come kink, which is probably my #1. I love how cheery the colors are and how passionate they are (look at those hands!). Also, it’s hot.

Revelations by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: None, PG-13.
Why You Should Look At It: First of all—this is a watercolor and I am in awe of how well the author was able to paint it, because the coloring is so gentle and precise and that is not easy with watercolors, internet. Second, it tells such a story just through their body language, they’re so adorable and nervous, but the kiss is so passionate. It makes me squee.

R/S comics by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: None. PG.
Why You Should Look At It: These are just quick little doodles, but they are so funny and adorable. I promise a giggle and a lingering smile per viewing ^_^

R/S Dancing by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: G.
Why You Should Look At It: I really, really adore boys dancing, and this one is especially sweet because it’s post-Azkaban. I love getting a little glimpse at the times they were actually allowed to be happy at Grimmauld Place, and Sirius’s face in this is so emotional.

**R/S Snog by linnpuzzle**
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13, there is a nipple.
Why You Should Look At It: The passion in this piece. I can’t even. No words.

**Reposed by spacefragments**
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13.
Why You Should Look At It: This is my favorite piece of old!boys art ever. They look exactly how they should at this point, which is really heartbreaking, but I love how much they love each other anyway. It makes me hurt, which of course, makes me very happy :D

School Ties by celestialsoda
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13.
Why You Should Look At It: Gryffidor tie kink will never fail to get my attention. I’m also intrigued by the coloring—it’s a little unusual but it works and it’s definitely original. And I really like the use of both of their hands to get the passion across.

**Stargazers by linnpuzzle**
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: G.
Why You Should Look At It: We can blame Supernatural for how much I love to see people stargazing nowadays. I also have a huge fondness for seeing the marauder’s dynamics, and this illustrates them really perfectly, I especially adore that there’s just a hint of R/S, it makes it so much more real.

Summer Fruits by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13. Might give you epilepsy.
Why You Should Look At It: THE COLORING ON THIS IS SO FUCKING HAPPY MAKING. This piece really does make me feel like summer. I love how playful it is and how handsy Sirius is. <3_<3

Three Pieces by ericahpfa
Light or Heavy: Mix, mostly light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: Overall, I’d say R.
Why You Should Look At It: All three of these pieces are so passionate.

Time by nassima
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: I just continue to adore this artist’s style. The hand on that little slip of skin in the back is so intimate and I am consistently impressed by her attention to detail—all the little elements in this room really make it come alive.

**The Untold Story of Their Happiness by chibitoaster**
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: G.
Why You Should Look At It: My head spins thinking of how much effort the artist put into this, it all shows. It’s really sweet and it addresses an interesting point. I love the faces both of them are making and that it tells a story as well as being a lovely drawing.

**Wake Up, Boo and Wake Up, Boo 2 by LadyBelial**
Light or Heavy: Light
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: Probably not work safe, but PGish. There are bare chests, but it’s snuggling.
Why You Should Look At It: So tender. So fucking gorgeous. Her sketching is impeccable and you can see how much she’s improved between the first and the second—as if the first one isn’t already pretty great. I am actually going to put a blanket rec on absolutely anything by LadyBelial, but these are my favorite pieces, so I wanted to make sure they got some extra attention.

Warm Me Up by spacefragments
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG-13, probably not work safe. Naked boy cuddling, you can’t see anything racy.
Why You Should Look At It: CASUAL INTIMACY, YOU’RE DOING IT RIGHT. Also, the attention to detail—I mean look at the little umbrella people downstairs! BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, I AM A FAN OF CASUAL INTIMACY.

Weightless Again by o_deanna
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: I love how adult Remus’s expression is, the color of the wine is absolutely hypnotizing, and they just say so much with those looks.

What I Saw Was This by nassima
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: The attention to detail in this piece blows my mind. I love the thought of this anonymous person looking out the window and getting to experience this intimate moment and the boys being completely oblivious to it. Favorite bit is definitely their shadows.

Winter by linnpuzzle
Light or Heavy: Light.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG.
Why You Should Look At It: Sirius is so fucking precious in this. And it’s hilarious. Because Snape chew toy. Bwaha.

FANVIDEO:

Fields of Gold by MysticTwilight
Light or Heavy: Heavy.
Rating/Spoilers/Warnings: PG. Includes James/Lily as well as Remus/Sirius.
Why You Should Watch It: I’m usually a little off on videos for this pair because there is so little footage of the actors in the movie and usually casting younger actors feels arbitrary, but this is wonderfully done. The maker managed to find a movie with four perfect young marauders and even a young Lily and even though a lot of it is taken from another movie it REALLY tells their story. This is well edited and it has a sad but appropriate song choice and it’s just excellent all around. The young Remus and Sirius are really perfect: Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale.

If you guessed "Elisa spent her entire time in the Harry Potter fandom staring at R/S fanart," give yourself a pat on the back. And get me to rehab.
